About
Hi, I'm Vimla Appadoo.
I'm an established leader, speaker, and facilitator — here to bring the clarity, calm, and confidence that helps people show up as their fullest selves.
I've spent over a decade helping people find their voice — in workshops, on stages, and in the one-to-one conversations that change how someone sees themselves.
I bring the energy and inspiration needed to help people participate meaningfully and build genuine confidence in themselves and each other. People tell me they leave feeling seen, heard, and a little braver than when they walked in.
Making Matrescence Work grew out of something I kept noticing: the return to work after becoming a mother is treated as a logistics problem, when it is really an identity one. The support that exists rarely meets women where they actually are.
So I built the space I wished existed — honest, warm, and challenging in the way that helps you grow. A space to move forward as the new version of yourself.
How I work
Safe enough to be honest. Challenging enough to grow.
You are not a problem to be managed.
Every session starts from the belief that what you're experiencing is real, normal, and worth naming. Children welcome, always.
Discomfort, held with care.
Real change asks something of us. I hold the space so you can question assumptions and move into the growth zone without falling.
In their words
A decade of people leaving braver.
"Vim is an established leader, speaker and facilitator who I've worked with a number of times over the past 10 years. She is brilliant at bringing the energy and inspiration needed, helping people participate meaningfully and building confidence in others."
"Vim has a calm confidence, making people feel seen, heard and injecting some of her confidence into them. I know from workshops and events hosted with Vim, she supported me and helped me believe that I could do it when on the inside I felt like a crumbling imposter."
"Working with Vimla genuinely shifted something in me. You created a space that felt both safe and challenging — where I could sit with discomfort, question my assumptions, and start to move into the growth zone. I left the sessions not just more informed, but more brave and more willing to show up differently, and to hold space for others to do the same. That experience has stayed with me and continues to shape how I lead and listen."
"I connected with Vim on so many levels, and throughout the many years I've known Vim, she was and still is my inspiration. From listening to her speak at events, to having one-to-one deep and meaningful conversations — Vim's presence will always make you feel supported."
"To have you around during my mat leave / return to work — so empowering. Remembering your support when Amber was a baby and you welcomed me and my babe with open arms into networking events, encouraging me to bring my voice and valuing my expertise with babe in arms. Yes please and thank YOU 🙏 seen & heard 🫶"
"Vim helped me realise and accept that my ambitions were far beyond someone who could joyfully work in a business — and that I'd be better off running my own outfit. There is something truly gifted in the frank and kind words from Vim that helped open my mind to build my work around what people actually need, not what I think is best."
"I took part in MMW towards the end of my second maternity leave and it has had such a positive effect on my return to work experience. It helped me reconnect with my strengths and normalise the myriad of feelings that can show up when you're going back to work — from guilt and doubt to excitement and anticipation. For anyone feeling overwhelmed about going back to work after becoming a mother, this course is the reminder you need to be kind to and invest in yourself — you deserve it! Vim does an incredible job creating a safe space for everyone to feel seen, supported and empowered to face the next chapter."
"Joining Vim on the Making Matrescence Work programme was one of the most meaningful steps in my return to work journey. I still think about the course content on a weekly basis and it continues to shape how I see myself and the role of work in my life as a parent now.
What made the experience truly gorgeous was the safe and supportive space that Vim created within the group. Sharing our stories with women who were at such similar points in their lives made me feel less alone. Having dedicated time to pause, think, and explore my own direction was something I didn't realise I needed as much as I did. It helped rebuild my confidence, and gave me clarity and a sense of possibility.
The sessions on strengths and interests helped me reconnect with myself, my identity, and the parts of me that exist beyond being a mother. It felt like rediscovering who I am at my core! The MMW course had a profound impact on me — not just professionally, but personally. It supported me at exactly the right moment, and I'm genuinely grateful for Vim and the wonderful new friends I gained."
"I massively appreciated sharing a safe space with women at very similar points in their lives to me. It made me feel less alone to hear how others had similar challenges, and I gained a lot from listening to everyone's stories and experiences. The conversations about getting what you want out of work really made me rethink what purpose work served in my life, and the sessions on our strengths and interests really helped to bring me back to myself, my identity, and hone in on who I am at my core — in addition to being a mother."
"The course genuinely taught me so much and gave me perspective I desperately needed, and that I think I'd have lacked otherwise."
